  QR code as tourism tool

QR code as tourism tool
Would not a QR Code be just the right tool on this sign to connect the physical world to the virtual one ? When walking in the streets of Neuchâtel on this sunny day I would have love when i met this sign to shoot the QR code associated that would have sent me online to some explanations of what I was looking at.

Of course nothing new here... Semapedia is just one first example of what I am talking here but it looks like a very easy first step to do. BTW... KAYWA Reader also reads matrix code... semacode (the code uses on semapedia) is not a problem then...

(the worst part of this post is that I have not found any explanations online about the sign on the picture... guess Tourism offices still have to enter in the 21st century)

  They call it Mobile Tag

Nokia and Abaxias just launched Mobile Tag.

The service let you generate a "tag" (other would call it a code, or 2D code) that contains your personal information: Firstname, lastname, phone number, email address:

You can actually generate as much of those as you want.

You can then connect to your account on the web. There you can access informations like how many times your code was access, create and edit codes (sorry tags), generates the tag in various format...

They say there is two kinds of tags: Contact tag and web tag. Does not look like a random user like me can generates the second kind of tag from their web interface!

The reader installed on the phone is really amazing!

I must have all code reader installed on my phone now... so here is a few facts:
- Semacode reader can decode Mobile Tag
- Mobile Tag reader can not decode QR code (like the one on Ichiba)
- Mobile Tag reader decode semacode but does not recognize the tag

Mobile Tag encode a number. When shooting the code, the soft contact a server to fetch the content related to that number. From their website: MobileTag uses an european ISO standard called DataMatrix (QR-code + Toku number).

The reader can be downloaded on the web or just point your mobile browser to mobiletag.com/download

  Print it in the street

Old stuff maybe but I had not realized it existed. While working in the street I bumped into a machine that would let you transfer your picture from your phone/camera and print it right away.

I tested it right away

  PSP design flaws

Andrea points to a few PSP flaws I have run into myself:
  • Analog button that is not well located;
  • Load time that can be too long sometimes;
  • Power key under the right hand that can turn off the PSP while playing;
  • Power led under the right hand so user do not see it blinking when running out of battery;

I'd like to add to this list the poor RSS support. New firmware supports RSS with enclosures but you have to be online to use it which makes it actually totally useless.

Besides that... this tool is awesome!

  Nokia N92, N80 and iPod Video

One of them will be mine... and since the Nokia's will not be on the market before Christmas, it will most likely be the new iPod (but of course as a true fan of those toys I will not resist next year to buy one of the NSerie)

That's what I call "packaging a product"! This mobile, sent in a nice plastic box, looks great. It actually does make me feel guilty to open it.
But I did... I will test it later on.

Big Up to the Sony Ericsson Crew in Switzerland they know how to work with partners.
